Courses and Services

The Confucius Institute and the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, offer the following courses: HSK Test Tutorial, Traditional Taiji (Tai Chi) Quan, Chinese Calligraphy/ Painting. The faculty at CI is among the best Chinese language education specialists with Ph.D. degrees and over ten to twenty years teaching experiences in the U.S. and around the world. We will offer small classes (minimum 5 students) free of charge. Courses open to anybody in the Columbia area.

1. HSK Test Tutorial

  • Enlarge your vocabulary
  • Brush up your grammar
  • Build your confidence in HSK test

   Venue: Welsh Humanities Building 6 Floor

   Fee:  Free Admission. Sponsored by the Confucius Institute at USC

2. Traditional Taiji (Tai Chi) Quan

    Curriculum Includes One Set of Tai Ji Quan and an Introduction to Chinese Martial Arts Culture & Customs.

    Meeting Times: Mar 4th -Apr 15th, 2019.  5:00pm-6:00pm (Mondays & Thursdays, USC hollidays are excluded) 

    Venue: Horseshoe of USC

    Fee:  Free Admission. Sponsored by the Confucius Institute at USC

    These courses will be taught by professors and highly accomplished professionals from China. They will be enjoyable and efficient access to the knowledge and experience of Chinese culture for either one's career or personal interests.

3. Chinese Painting & Calligraphy Class 
    Intermediate Level

    This is a continuation of the beginning painting and calligraphy course offered last year by the Confucius Institute.  Our focus will be on developing the ability to recognize different styles of Chinese painting and calligraphy. 

    The instructor will provide model paintings for students to appreciate and analyze, and then they will learn to paint different elements from those model paintings.  There will also be more discussion of calligraphy, with an emphasis on incorporating calligraphy into the paintings. 

    There is no class in 2019 Spring.
