K-12 School Outreach
The CI at USC commits to support K-12 schools at midlands and lowlands in their Chinese programs. Porter-Gaud School at Charleston SC was the first K-12 school that the CI supported. The school introduced Chinese program to its lower school in 2011. The school was awarded the Confucius Classroom title on April 28, 2013, and ribbon cutting ceremony was held on February 24, 2014. East Point Academy (EPA) in Cayce is South Carolina's first Chinese immersion charter school that the CI supported. The school developed quickly and successfully within years. EPA was granted the title of a Confucius Classroom on May 8, 2014, and the unveiling ceremony was held on September 26, 2014. South Carolina Science Academy (SCSA) is a newly established charter school in Columbia, cultivating students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Mandarin Chinese is provided in Grades 6-9 as a foreign language. The CI supported their Chinese program in fall 2014.
